DIRECTOR STATEMENT
I’ve always been an observant person. Reading people and their actions tells far more truth about someone than their words. I suspect this is why I’ve always been so passionate about film, as it offers a window of observation into human behaviour. Or maybe it’s the other way round. Maybe observing human behaviour so intently is something I developed because of film. Hard to tell.
Therein lies the crux of why I wanted to make Reboot. How much of our own behaviour is influenced by the media we consume? Growing up, I would often hear about how particular films could have a negative influence on someone. But what about their positive influence? How often are films credited for mending relationships, sparking change, or helping someone through a difficult time? Exploring both facets of influence on someone’s identity was important to me while making the film.
This is the first time I’ve directed others, and I’m incredibly proud of the work that the cast and crew put into realising my vision. Reboot is almost exactly the film I imagined it would be.

SYNOPSIS
In an undisclosed location, August, a new-born AI, is given a hypothetical scenario designed to elicit an emotional response, to which he has no answer. April, the testing examiner, moves on to show him some classic films as part of the examination process – the intention being to expose him to a wide range of human behaviour. As time passes and the sessions continue, August begins to have prophetic visions of a forest while developing an identity of his own – one that forms a connection with April.
Circling back to the original scenario, August is finally ready to answer. However, he fears the outcome of the tests and what it might mean for his future. Enlisting April’s help, August seeks a way out, making a decision that will change both of their lives forever.
